If there's one thing Japanese game developers know, it's how to make epic, sprawling RPGs. Creator of the massively popular Professor Layton series Level-5 has been preparing a 10th anniversary celebration by working with renowned animation company Studio Ghibli on just such an RPG for the Nintendo DS.

The game, entitled Ni no Kuni: The Another World looks set to be one of the biggest games the handheld Nintendo platform has ever seen, with a full orchestral score, a trademark Ghibli storyline bulging at the sides with surreal characters and out of control magic, and a massive 4GB DS cartridge.

Unfortunately, it now seems this monumental collaboration is taking longer than expected, and has been bumped back until 2010 - and that's for the Japanese release.

Localisation of a massive RPG like this will be a monumental task, and coupled with the expense of the memory-heavy cartridge it could be a very long time - if ever - that we see a worldwide release of Ni no Kuni. a real shame, considering this is probably the game that RPG fans have been waiting for since the day the DS hit the shelves.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
