We've been following the big bang that's created a whole new cyberspace universe in the cross-platform sci-fi MMO, Outer Empires, and thought you'd like to know that the web browser version has just gone live.

Outer Empires is essentially the iPhone's answer to EVE Online, with elements of the classic space exploration game Elite, and a bit of Sins of a Solar Empire thrown in for economic and socio-political excitement.

"Outer Empires is a new-born galaxy, just waiting for players to begin building history by colonising planets, exploring the far reaches of space and forming powerful cadres of miners, traders and pirates," says Iron Will Studio lead designer Paul Hutson.

"The browser version has just launched this very minute, and already we've got people signing up for lifetime accounts and racing to colonise the richest planets in the 20,000 star systems."

The galaxy has been reset from the beta testing phase, making it a clean slate for all the galactic explorers keen to start a new life as a virtual rocket man.

The iPhone version was submitted to Apple in the middle of last week, so will hopefully be with us shortly. The good news with Outer Empires, of course, is that you can play the exact same game within any web browser as you'll play on the iPhone or iPod touch, so making a start on the desktop game will give you a leg up when the portable version appears on the App Store.

"Outer Empires will offer players the opportunity to follow rich in-game story arcs, and to build their own player-led governments," Hutson concludes." With a galaxy this big there are a lot of stories to tell, so we'll soon be announcing some more exciting news from the Outer Empires universe that will give iPhone players a deeper, richer experience of this region of cyberspace."

You can check out our exclusive preview of the iPhone version of Outer Empires right here, then head on over to the official website to sign up for your free spacefaring account. More news as we get it.
