Konami sneaks in Metal Gear Solid Touch price cut

Low sales prompt temporary price reduction

Konami sneaks in Metal Gear Solid Touch price cut

Having fallen off the charts months ago, Metal Gear Solid Touch may get a boost back onto the App Store Top 100 if Konami has anything to say about it.

The company today announced a temporary sale on the game August 13-15. Currently priced at $7.99 or £2.99, it will be reduced to $2.99 or £1.79.

Anthony Borquez, Vice President of Konami Mobile and Online claims the price drop is a way of catering to the economically squeezed iPhone gamer.

"In today's economy, gamers are looking for ways to stretch their entertainment dollars more than ever, and with a $2.99 Metal Gear Solid price point on the iPhone and iPod touch platforms, their entertainment dollars can go a long way."

Our analysis, however, points to the sale being a factor of the game's virtual invisibility on the App Store.

Following a hyped release in March, the game was critically panned. Even after a free update, it fizzled in terms of reviews. Surprisingly, it still sold well despite poor reviews and a high price point.

The game's 20 stages simply don't have the variety we expected from a series of this calibre. Metal Gear Solid Touch doesn't earn our full recommendation, but at least this sale price makes it a little easier to swallow.
