There's a number of rumours flying around the internet concerning Apple’s plans for an 8GB 3GS unit to complement the existing 16GB version. The most convincing of these comes from Rogers Wireless, the Apple distributor for our Canadian cousins.

Snaps have been obtained by Boy Genius of an internal memo announcing the transition from the old 8GB 3G to the super-fast 8GB 3GS. It looks as if there’s going to be a push to sell all of the old 3G stock before introducing the new one, so watch out for similar tactics wherever you call home.

The cost of the new 16GB 3GS has been the one major sticking point for potential adopters, so the introduction of a cheaper unit makes a lot of sense. The pricing for the new 8GB has yet to emerge, however.
