PSP's Gran Turismo download price considerably cheaper than UMD
Japanese pricing reveals big savings for digital version
German gaming site PlayStationPortable.de has got hold of the retail figures for Sony's forthcoming PSP adaptation of Gran Turismo, which shows that there's considerable savings to be made by opting for a download rather than a boxed copy.
Picking up the game off the shop shelves will kick you in the trousers at the usual PSP retail copy prices of 5480 JPY, which currently works out at around £34, while a digital download will be a wallet caressing 4400 JPY, or £27 in real money.
A reasonable saving, and a distribution method that means you don't have to trail into town and risk swine flu. That said, ignoring the retail price and looking purely at the download cost of £27 is bound to draw comparisons to the iPhone's App Store, against which it sounds like a rather hefty amount.
And considering games like Real Racing, perhaps it's not actually such an unfair comparison to make. How much would you pay for a big name PSP download?
