The Leipzig Games Convention is one of the most anticipated and popular browser, client and mobile gaming trade shows of the year, though getting in to see a hot new title at one of the company stands is worse that Alton Towers on a bank holiday.

Despite 50,000 gamers still being expected to descend on the show this year, the organisers are debuting a new (and, to be quite honest, far more appropriate) method of checking out next season's gaming delights. The show is going online for the full three day convention, with exhibitors making parts of their games available online and free of charge.

"Online games are revolutionising the digital entertainment market. With their minimum access preconditions, they are on the march worldwide. So I'm all the more delighted that we in Leipzig are holding the Games Convention Online as the new trade show for this highly innovative industry," says Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of the Leipziger Messe.

The internet-based aspects of the Games Convention Online will also feature live streams from the conference floor, TV and radio broadcasts over the net, its own blog and a forum for viewers to send their comments directly to the show.

The virtual doors are open from today, 31st July until 2nd August, so head on over to the official Games Convention Online website to get a front row seat of the trade show floor.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
