Apple: Jailbroken iPhones could be used for cyber-terrorism and drug dealing

In its latest attack on the jailbreaking scene, Apple has filed a claim opposing the potential legalisation of the process. They’ve done so by making some extraordinary claims about what it could lead to.

One of their arguments is that jailbreaking an iPhone allows you access to the unit’s “baseband processor,” which governs the connection to mobile phone towers. According to Apple, clever sorts would potentially be able to manipulate this element to crash the tower, “rendering the tower entirely inoperable to process calls or transmit data.” Yikes.

But that’s not all. Apple also claims that Jailbroken iPhones can be used to make anonymous calls - which would be of great benefit to drug dealers. Yes, they actually said that. Or rather, they said this:

“[H]ackers may be able to change the ECID, which in turn can enable phone calls to be made anonymously (this would be desirable to drug dealers, for example).”
