We mentioned a few weeks ago that the new iPhone 3.0 software would inevitably lead to a swift increase in adult applications on the App Store, but Apple's removal of the Hottest Girls app seemed to suggest that they were, ahem, standing firm on the matter.

Adult app iPorn (do you see what they did there?) appears to have found a way around such restrictions, and has hit 45,000 users in its first month.

Where Apple objected to Hottest Girls was in its deceptive addition of X-rated material to the app after it had been approved by Apple. The mere fact that it is an app means that Apple wields considerable power over its presence on the App Store.

iPorn gets around this by not being classed as an app, but rather taking the form of a free website.

iPorn was developed as a web application that can be obtained by users over the age of 18 through their iPhone web browser for free without having to purchase it through Apple's iTunes App store,” said the makers, explaining that the app thus “bypasses Apple's ability to censor content from the iPhone”.

I don’t know about you, but I imagined the spokesman letting off a maniacal cackle after saying that.
