Exient: App Store is 'a great democracy for quality'
Likens user ratings to displaying Metacritic scores in video game stores
Exient Entertainment has made quite a splash on the App Store with its hotly debated footy game X2 Football 2009. Now co-founder and technical director Charles Chapman looks set to cause further debate following a recent interview with Edge-Online, where he discusses App Store pricing and the whole 3.0 situation.
Ultimately (and perhaps unsurprisingly), Chapman defends the App Store by pointing to the benefits of the user rating system. “The App Store is actually a great democracy for quality,” he said, “if you’re charging a high price then there’s no excuse for a bad product, and if the product is poor then it’s right there for all to see and it’s all reflected in user feedback.”
Chapman then provides a handy illustration to show how forward thinking such a feature is for the industry: “It would be like high street videogame stores displaying Metacritic ratings next to all the boxes on shelves - there’s no hiding behind the marketing and brand if the quality isn’t there.”
Now there's an idea.
