We heard about the official new portable Mega Drive unit preparing to hit the shelves soon, which had all us aging nerd-boys at Pocket Gamer arguing over who gets to request the review unit.

Now there's an equally tasty portable SNES unit appeared on t'internet, though this one comes from a homebrew hacker over on Retroactive.be.

This beautiful looking piece of nostalgic kit apparently eats through batteries a bit quick, but plays original SNES cartridges right in the sweaty palms of your retro-grasping hands.

It appears he took apart a later model of the Nintendo console and refashioned it to fit inside something of a Game Gear-styled casing, with a 5 inch LCD, speakers and a headphone jack.

Avid retro collectors will be pleased to hear it's likely to be sold on a closed auction, so head over to the blog post to find out how to slap your cash down on the counter.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
