iPhone 3.0 software update has gone live!

The update we've all been waiting for is finally here

iPhone 3.0 software update has gone live!

To be fair, it wasn't all that long since we heard about the iPhone's 3.0 software direct from Apple, but the wait has still been tortuous. We've been perched precariously on the edge of our seats all day, obsessively hitting the 'check for updates' button.

The download has finally begun.

Just as happened with the 2.0 update almost a year ago to the day, we expect the Apple system to be heavily taxed by the sheer weight of users scrambling to get hold of the elusive download. [Update: it went off without a hitch].

And we're mildly aggravated to see that iPod touch users are once again being charged for what's going to be a necessary update, and are expected to shell out £5.99 where iPhoners pay nothing. Rhubarb!

Anyway, game updates have been appearing over the last week or so denoting their 3.0 compatibility, but we'll have to wait and see which 3.0 specific titles makes it the App Store first.

For the time being, most iPhone and iPod touch users will be happy simply to make use of the landscape keyboard and email, MMS messaging, cut, copy and paste functions, enhanced gaming possibilities and the host of other updates Apple has bundled into the new software release.

As soon as it loaded up, we'll give you a complete rundown of our first impressions of iPhone 3.0.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
