ngmoco lures Sega exec Simon Jeffery over to the iPhone

ngmoco has embraced the iPhone as a games platform pretty much since day one, and is responsible for some of the most popular games on the App Store.

But it's also working behind the scenes to expand the potential of not only its user base, but the potential of the entire platform.

PocketGamer.Biz has been looking at how it's gearing up to launch a new social networking platform called the Plus+ Network, which will be similar to OpenFeint, AGON Online and Scoreloop.

These networks allow the addition of social networking features to games and developers across the platform, while allowing users to create a single online profile to connect to their iPhone games.

What's particularly interesting about ngmoco's new venture is that it's bringing in some big guns from Sega to watch over things, in the shape of ex-Sega of America president Simon Jeffery.

It's a big bonus point for the iPhone that it's luring over big league console hitters like Jeffery to its side, and any arguments about the system's status as a fully fledged gaming platform are pretty much void.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
