iSoccer Backstreet kicks off on the App Store

Football's become quite popular in recent years, with literally hundreds of fans flocking to the arenas and stadia to watch well-groomed pseudo celebrities showing off and acting up on fields of grass so pristine they could make Tom Jones break into spontaneous song.

But who's ever actually played soccer in these places, other than in video games? 98.32 per cent of folk who enjoy a good kick about do so in the urban, concrete jungles of dystopian society, so that's where Artificial Life has set its new iPhone footy game, iSoccer Backstreet.

The game features a host of different football orientated games to test your virtual ball skills, including dribbling, shooting, a dozen freestyle tricks, body balancing stalls and a fascinating option to destroy your concrete jungle with a ball and a heavy boot.

No perfectly aligned goal mouths, no accurately drawn field markings, no wallet-plundered crowds, no half-time pies and absolutely no referees. iSoccer Backstreet presents an ungoverned urban sport as you remember it from a Thatcher-crippled childhood. Check it out:

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
