Firemint's Real Racing is probably the most anticipated iPhone game so far this year, after glimpses were first seen all the way back at GDC 2008 last August.

There's been a steady flow of teaser info leaking out of Firemint's virtual garage ever since, with Real Racing landing the Technical Achievement award at the IGF Mobile, and Excellence in Connectivity at IMGA.

We can certainly agree with the judges in that respect, after we tested out the wi-fi multiplayer system over the weekend. It also features a unique online league system, allowing you to submit your race times to a host of different competitions using Firemint's increasingly popular Cloudcell system (head on over to Cloudcell.com to sign up, or you can do it in-game).

With 36 cars, a dozen tracks, 57 events, six on-screen racers and five game modes, Real Racing is putting some serious horsepower under the iPhone's bonnet.

We'll have our full review for you shortly, and in the meantime, why not check out our own Stuart Dredge in the video below as he shows off his lead-footed skills through Real Racing's YouTube replay system.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
