iPhone steps into uncharted literary territory

Jules Verne's Return to Mysterious Island washes up on the App Store

If you're a Jules Verne fan (and who isn't to some degree, even if it's just a fondness for Doc Brown in Back to the Future) you'll already have picked up on the explorations of Mina when she's shipwrecked on an uncharted island.

Although she began life in the pages of the classic novel, more recently she's become better know as the star of adventure games on the PC and Symbian mobiles.

The same studio now brings the epic, swashbuckling yarn to the iPhone, in a pretty huge 3D adventure game packed with tricky mini-games and intriguing puzzles as you attempt to find Captain Nemo and escape from the island.

Return to Mysterious Island promises 15 hours of gameplay and mystery (which explains its whopping 263MB download size) so if you're looking for a way to loaf in the garden this weekend, going on a seafaring journey to a strange new land with Jules Verne sounds like a pretty great idea.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
