Monster Pinball bounces out onto iPhone

Digital entertainment agency Matmi is branching out from its usual staple of online, Flash-based branded games and hitting the App Store - with a small metal ball bearing.

Pinball games have been growing in popularity on the iPhone, but Matmi's latest contribution is a breath of 'fresh, helium-filled air' (as the developer puts it) called Monster Pinball.

Unlike most games of its type, Monster Pinball is neither a pinball simulator nor a retro conversion, instead offering a unique and super-slick take on the popular pub game that could only exist inside an iPhone.

Running at 60 frames per second, Monster Pinball takes you through six unique tables introducing you to the Monster Mafia and a host of different pinball mechanics, such as 'hotball', 'stallballs', boosts, rebounds, multiple flippers and some of the most stylish graphics the platform has ever seen.

The game went live rather unexpectedly, I'm told by the Matmi team, so head on over to the App Store to check it out. Here's a gameplay video to put a coin in your slot if you're not yet convinced.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
