The iPhone Updates Update V1.2: Car Jack Streets, Bloons, SnakeGalaxy...
|

There are some high profile games featured in this week’s edition of the iPhone Updates Update, including what might just be the most talked about update yet. Can you guess which title we’re talking about?

The forum has also been steadily receiving more in the way of commenters, though sadly no new posts this week. So, please post lots more of them - free coverage for your iPhone wares will be your reward.

Unless of course you're just a fan posting about the updates you would like to see, in which case your reward will be the (admittedly slim) possibility that your update suggestions will be spotted by a developer and swiftly implemented.

But enough about that, read on to see which games demand a replay this week.

Top five updates this week

Car Jack Streets V1.2

Few games have divided opinion at Pocket Gamer quite like Car Jack Streets has and few updates have carried so much expectation.

There is now a steering wheel control scheme so you can simply point to where you want to go and then keep your foot/finger on the accelerator. There’s a fully interactive city map with GPS, too, which should make navigating those tightly packed streets a bit less tricky.

Two new vehicles have also been added: a helicopter and a sports utility tank (whatever that is) and you can now carry multiple weapons at once, cycling through them by touching the weapon icon. You can also miss up to five payments without dying, which takes the difficulty level down a notch.

All that, plus an overall stability and battery consumption update make this one of the most fully featured updates of any iPhone game.

iTunes link Tap Tap Revenge 2 v2.5

We’re not in the habit of covering free games in the iPhone Updates Update, but Tap Tap Revenge 2 is worth bending the rules slightly for. The update in question contains so many additions that the game has been renamed Tap Tap Revenge 2.5.

Each song can now have its own theme and if you buy one of the premium editions of the game (Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Tap Tap Dance) you can now import those tracks into the free game.

There's also a new Points and Battles mode plus dozens of new tracks that have been added since the initial release of Tap Tap Revenge 2. Headphones and USB cables at the ready.

iTunes link Bloons v1.1

If all the Bloons review comments that have appeared on Pocket Gamer were placed end to end, they would stretch to the Sun and back. Twice. Which means this latest update is bound to be a popular one.

There are 50 more levels to contend with now as well as an unlimited darts mode, a level editor and support for playing your own music stored on your iPhone/iPod during the game. What are you doing still reading this? Go and update!

iTunes link Bobby Carrot Forever v1.1

The Bobby Carrot series has been quietly amassing a strong following over the years and developer FDG Mobile has been working hard to make sure the iPhone version, Bobby Carrot Forever, lives up to the license’s reputation.

This update includes reworked and improved controls with support for two and one handed variants. There’s a new virtual D-Pad (switchable for left and right handed players), a video tutorial, a Quickstart mode and some other minor bug fixes.

Not much in the way of new content, then, but control customisation is certainly a welcome improvement. Hopefully we’ll get some extra levels in a future update.

iTunes link SnakeGalaxy v1.1

Mobile gaming’s oldest son has made a welcome return to the forefront of handheld gaming on the iPhone with SnakeGalaxy and with some new features under its belt, this update is keeping the Snake refresh fresher than ever.

The biggie is the new online scoring system, which, should facilitate bragging about the length of one’s Snake (arf arf etc.) There’s also the added ability to speed up or slow down the snake as well as some minor visibility enhancements.

Not a huge list of additions, but enough to make updating more than worthwhile.
