Augmented reality haunting game Ghostwire coming to DSi

Time to fire up your frequency modulator

Augmented reality haunting game Ghostwire coming to DSi

Spooky ghosthunting game Ghostwire has already impressed plenty of people as it was judged the winner of Nokia's Mobile Games Innovation Challenge 2008. And now it's heading over to DSi.

The augmented reality game requires the use of a camera, which is why developer A Different Game is specifically targeting the DSi rather than the DS. Ghostwire is in development for various other devices including smartphones too.

The experience is explained as being part collection game, like Pokemon, combined with aspects from adventure games.

Basically you'll use your DSi to communicate with the ghosts you find round and about you. Each of them will require you to a perform a quest, and you'll need to discover why they haunt our world, and ultimately, help them to find peace.

The tools you'll need to use will range from hardware such as the DSi's cameras and microphone to solving riddles and using in-game gizmos such as the frequency modulator. There's no mention yet of proton packs or containment grids however.

"The Nintendo DSi platform is perfect for this game" says Anders Bergman, lead game designer of Ghostwire. "It allows us to enhance the integrated real-world experience with the combination of camera, microphone and touchscreen."
