Sony explains its PSP in your hands mashup site

A couple of weeks ago, we were intrigued by the launch of what we referred to as a mashup-lite website promoting PSP. So we decided to dig a little deeper to find out what Sony's plan was for the concept.

Welcome to Katy O'Brien, PS3 Campaign Manager, Online Marketing, who will inform us...

What's the purpose of the YourWholeWorld website?

Katy O'Brien: The PSPinyourhands.com website builds on the Your Whole World In Your Hands proposition. PSP offers a world of entertainment experiences in the palm of your hands: your favourite games, all your movies and photos, the ability to chat with friends, browse the internet, listen to your favourite music....

We wanted to build an application that would allow people to show their 'world' in pictures. By pulling in images from various sources you are able to create a visual representation of what makes up your world.

The application provides a really original means of expression for our young audience and allows people an insight into the worlds of others via the 'world' gallery.

Are there any plans to give it more social networking features?

We are currently considering proposals for a Facebook application to support the website.

How much customisation do you plan to include in terms of enabling different media?

We do not currently plan to include any media other than images within the 'worlds'.

Is the site optimised to work on PSP?

The PSP browser does not support Flash so we are unable to provide the experience via PSP. If a user does navigate to the site on their PSP there is currently a short article promoting the site which encourages viewers to head to their PS3 or PC to take part. We plan to expand our offering on the PSP browser site over the coming months.

Thanks to Katy for her time.
