A headset is possibly the most vital accessory you will ever buy for your mobile. Not only will it enable you to drive legally while having a phone conversation, it may also reduce the risk of your suffering the health consequences that doctors say could arise from low levels of radiation exposure.

Using a mobile headset can improve your comfort as well as reducing the risk of accident and disease. By squeezing a phone between your neck and shoulder, you can reduce blood flow and cause serious long-term discomfort. Headsets allow you to keep a correct posture, thereby decreasing muscle discomfort.

Finally, using a headset will allow you to increase your productivity. Tasks as diverse as checking materials, typing, writing, preparing food and gardening can all be carried out while using a mobile headset, particularly one which utilises Bluetooth technology.

New Bluetooth headsets have a number of advantages over traditional models. No need to attach yourself to your mobile by means of a wire – now you can place and receive calls whenever your phone is in signal range. It is also possible to connect to your computer for teleconferencing calls, and if you switch mobile phones you should still be able to use your headset.

Currently, there are a number of mobile headsets that stand head and shoulders above the rest. The Nokia BH-801 is popular for its stylish look and its small size. Features include an 80 mAh battery which permits up to six hours of hands-free talk time, an optional earloop and a neck strap and belt loop.

Vodafone offer the VBH-350 Bluetooth Headset, which can be used with most mobile phones and comes at the surprisingly cheap price of £13.05. Finally, the Sony Ericsson HBH-GV435 is highly rated for its lightweight design and sound quality.

You can use a Bluetooth headset whether you have pay as you go or a mobile contract. However, it may be worth investing in a contract which offers you a good quality headset as a free extra alongside your mobile phone.
