Rumour: PSP price drop early June, PSP 2 in late 2009
Sony considering making its consoles competitive
A new rumour has surface over at PS3Gen.fr that Sony is preparing to drop the price on both its home console, the PS3, and the handheld PSP system it’s recently taken a sudden interest in.
The rumour suggests the PSP will see €20 trimmed from the console’s price tag, so it’s not going to be the kind of saving that’d buy you a PSP game, for instance, but any reduction is always welcome.
Naturally Sony is denying the rumour (lest the Osbourne Effect strike), though the source also agrees that all this attention Sony is suddenly pouring on the PSP - after ignoring it for nigh on two years - is in preparation for a hardware sequel in late 2009.
We’ve had a similar source tell us at Pocket Gamer that the PSP 2 will be with us before Christmas, so all these extra PSP sales could be Sony’s drive to shore up both the cash for the new system’s release, and to re-establish the giant as a hardware power.
If further rumours are to be believed, Sony will be dropping bombshells all over the place at this year's E3. Watch this space.
