Gameloft's Siberian Strike flying onto iPhone

Mobile shmup 'Russian' (rushing) onto the App Store

Gameloft's Siberian Strike flying onto iPhone

It's a long time since we saw Gameloft's 2D shoot-'em-up Siberian Strike on the mobile, which managed to impress our gallant leader Chris James with its high-octane similarity to the classic coin-op 1942, though it was ultimately a bit tough (and short) to really grab us by the gaming thumbs.

U.S. representatives of Gameloft have confirmed that Siberian Strike is being adapted to iPhone. Naturally, all the high-speed drama will be fully retained, as will the bullet hell styling and post WWII visual flair.

The game follows an amusingly surreal storyline in which Stalin is crossbred with the Mir Space Station after World War II, and goes on a global commie rampage.

Hopefully Siberian Strike won't be the only 2D shmup released for the iPhone over the next few months. This is a favourite retro genre that we can't get enough of, but is rather under represented at present on the App Store. Look for our hands on impressions of the game next week.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
