Top 20 iPhone apps of all time revealed
As the App Store draws closer to its billionth download
While Nintendo president Satoru Iwata continues to deny the iPhone’s position in the handheld games industry, Apple has launched a countdown timer to its billionth application download.
It’s also taken the opportunity to gather up the most downloaded paid and free applications since the platform’s launch, with hit racing game Crash Bandocoot Nitro Kart 3D taking the lead paid spot (put together by the team now comprising Bulkpix, you might be interested to learn) while the Facebook application lands the number one free position.
The top 10 paid list is as follows;
Crash Bandicoot (£3.49)
Moto Chaser (£0.59)
Virtual Pool (£0.59)
Cro-Mag Rally (£1.19)
Flick Fishing (£0.59)
Koi Pond (£0.59)
Monopoly Here & Now (£2.99)
Super Monkey Ball (£2.49)
PocketGuitar (£0.59)
iCopter (£0.59)
While the top 10 free apps are
FacebookiPint
Google Earth
Pac-Man Lite
Touch Hocket FS5
Labyrinth Lite Edition
Lightsaber Unleashed
Tap Tap Revenge
Flashlight
Shazam
At the time of writing there’s still around 48 million downloads to go, but judging by the way the numbers are flying past on that countdown timer, it won’t be long to go. After a very quick and dirty calculation and assuming the rate of downloads remains consistent (which it won’t), we reckon that leaves 27 days before the counter hits a billion.
Apple’s giving out a few prizes in celebration, so head on over there to get involved.
