Opinion: Nintendo needs to pull out its thumb over DSiWare updates

Card-carrying members of the Nintendo fanclub probably still believe the company will fulfill its statements concerning the download-only DSi Shop.

These are Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Amie, telling us it would be a case of "quality over quantity"; while a statement within the DSi Shop itself says "New Nintendo DSiWare titles are added to the Nintendo DSi Shop regularly".

But having spent £150 on our third DS console, we're already getting a little restless. One week after its release - and on a prime holiday weekend too - there's nothing new to spend our Nintendo DSi Points on.

And to be honest, this lack of new stuff really annoys us because we know there are games that could have been released if people at Nintendo Europe had pulled their thumbs out. For example, in America, the launch games for the DSi Shop included Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face - a single trick version of magic game Master of Illusion - and Brain Age Express: Math - a math-focused edition of Brain Training. They haven't been released here, yet.

And while we loved Art Style: CODE most of the other DSiWare launch games (notably Paper Plane and Pyoro, called Bird & Beans in the US) are embarrassing. Equally, the whole point of launching DSi is that's it's Nintendo's first portable console with an online store. What's the point of that if there's nothing new to see on the online shelves?

Frankly, it's all very well for Reggie to say it's a case of "quality over quantity" but we'd like one or the other please.
