We’re sure you were as excited as we were about Nintendo’s recent announcement of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, the sequel to the sublime Phantom Hourglass. The question on everyone’s lips, though, was if and how it would include the DSi’s unique features.
A source close to Nintendo has revealed exclusively to Pocket Gamer that yes, there will be DSi functionality, in the shape of a unique train-snapping element.
As we reported, this Zelda will feature Link in full-on train-driving mode, but if you own a DSi you’ll be able to take snaps of real-life trains and import them into the game. The skin will then be wrapped around Link’s locomotive, and hey presto - you’ll have a custom set of wheels to chug around Hyrule in.
We’re unsure how exactly this technology will work out. Will you be able to scan in any object? Imagine Link chugging around in a cheese grater, for example. It’s a promising feature, regardless, and we can’t wait for an excuse to don our anoraks and get trainspotting - all in the name of Nintendo.
