RIM's app store is available to download

BlackBerry App World is live... now!
|

Research In Motion has launched its BlackBerry App World store this morning in the UK, US and Canada, as predicted.

You can download the client by pointing your BlackBerry browser to mobile.blackberry.com, or by visiting the official BlackBerry App World website.

20 applications are currently being highlighted as Featured Apps on the website, but only one is a game: Gameloft's Brain Challenge 2: Stress Management.

As previously announced, you'll need a working PayPal account to buy apps from the store, which RIM says works on any BlackBerry with Device Software 4.2 higher, and a trackball or touchscreen.

However, at the time of writing, we're trying to download the App World client on a BlackBerry Curve 8310 with v4.5 software, and are being told "Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support BlackBerry App World". RIM's system requirements info says the App World "may not be available on all networks", so we're really hoping this doesn't mean Vodafone UK has blocked it. More as the day goes on. UPDATE: We just tried again, and the App World client is now downloading successfully. Someone must have flicked a switch at RIM HQ!
