'Woo hoo!': Audiosurf could be racing onto the iPhone
Original developer keen to start work
As Apple announced at its recent unveiling of the iPhone 3.0 software, applications will be given access to the music on your iPhone or iPod touch for integration into their operations.
Well, this seemingly trivial feature got the fans of the IGF Excellence in Audio Award winning PC game, Audiosurf, immediately recognised the potential for developer Dylan Fritterer to finally bring his music/rhythm/racing hit to the iPhone.
The game involves racing along a futuristic track, avoiding static blocks while collecting up the coloured ones - all of which appear in sync with music chosen by the player.
Fritterer had already dismissed the possibility of an iPhone port, saying it wouldn’t really be feasible as Apple would need to open up access to the iPod library.
The gamers didn’t forget about this limitation, and now it’s due to be lifted in 3.0, the developer has been quizzed once again by TheAppEra on the game’s iPhone potential. His answer?
“Woo hoo! I’m on it.”
Awesome.
