Inspector Gadget bumbling his way onto the iPhone

Having recently turned 25-years old, the clumsy, high-tech hero Inspector Gadget has just brought his own particular brand of bionic police work to the iPhone, courtesy of license holder Namco Bandai.

Inspector Gadget is a personal favourite for me, and a character who has gained a loyal global following, making him one of the most lovable icons of the cartoon crime-solving world,” says Namco Bandai’s pres, Barry O’Neill.

Inspector Gadget and the iPhone is a perfect partnership as one of the world’s most famous gadget users meets one of the world’s most famous gadgets.”

And it wouldn’t be an adventure for the gizmo-laden copper without his niece Penny or the faithful mega-brainy dog, Brain, as they attempt to thwart the gruff-voice machinations of the evil Dr Claw.

The Inspector comes to us in a platform game using an unusual touchscreen controller. Six buttons are placed around the edges of the landscape-orientated screen to allow for quick and easy movements in all directions - a system that, from a distance, looks a bit easier to negotiate than the clumsy D-pads we have been seeing lately.

Anyway, Inspector Gadget’s on the App Store already, at the moderately reasonable price of £2.99 (not too bad, considering it’s got a license hanging around its neck). Let us know your thoughts on it, and in the meantime here’s the Inspector Gadget theme tune to get stuck in your head for a week.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
