For perhaps the first time in gaming history a console is being released here before it is in the US. That console, of course, is the DSi, and we’re getting it two days before our transatlantic kinsmen.

Which is all well and good (assuming the hardware update has tickled your fancy with a touchscreen stylus), but what about the games to show off what Nintendo’s new handheld can do?

Well, Nintendo’s just put out its release dates for the second quarter of 2009, and amidst the slew of Wii games and hot DS titles like GTA: Chinatown Wars, Pokemon Platinum and Ghostbusters is squirreled the first European (and US) DSi-specific game, Rhythm Paradise, slated for a May 1st release. (We reviewed the Japanese version back in September 2008.)

We might be getting the console first, but Rhythm Paradise (also known as Rhythm Heaven) will be a DSi launch title over in the US, so our cousins will have something to do with their new games machine a few weeks before us.

Harumph.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
