It’s easy to forget that the iPhone and iPod touch are bred from Apple’s celebrated line of MP3 players, though more than a few games are beginning to remind us of the fact.

Winner of the IGF Mobile Best Game Award, Edge, is one such game. Its chirpy tones set the pace of the game quite beautifully, and remind us of game playing days long forgotten, as our own Keith Andrews explained in his Gold Award review:

“That has a lot to do with the way the game's delivered. Edge comes packaged with some rather smart music, mixing everything from house to retro electronica (anyone who spent their youth playing Sonic or Mario will appreciate much of what tinkers away in the background). It oozes class and positively pulsates with style.”

And now Mobigame is giving the soundtrack to Edge away for free, in celebration of the Lite version rolling out onto the App Store. A cynic could see it as a marketing campaign, which is it is, kinda, but we love free house music so this is very much our kind of tuneful marketing.

Head on over to the official site to pick up the 19 individual tracks from game maestros Romain "Ninomojo" Gauthier, Simon Périn, Jérémie Périn, Matthieu Malot and Richard Malot.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
