Sony’s annual retail and publisher conference, Destination PlayStation, is currently underway in Phoenix, and a few crumbs of hot gaming news have just fallen from the conference table.

A press release has been put out detailing plans for the PSP in 2009. Amidst other bits of info, the big news is that LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, Assassin’s Creed and Rock Band Unplugged are all to receive exclusive PSP instalments.

Assassin’s Creed will also be used to help push the console, coming as the bundle game with a new ‘piano black’ console, while a Hannah Montanna game will attempt to make the system more appealing to a younger female demographic in another new bundle. This one will feature a pretty damn cool lilac PSP console, pictured.

Rock Band Unplugged promises an in-game music store, as well as making use of the system’s wifi capability. Whether or not this will include wireless multiplayer isn’t entirely clear, but it’d be a damn shame if it didn’t.

This announcement could provide a tall drink of water after the PSP has spent 2008 wandering alone in the desert, and with additional support coming from EA Sports with NFL 10 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, along with the world release of popular Japanese title Dissidia Final Fantasy also on the books, could 2009 finally see the PSP put on life support?

Let’s hope so.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
