How to record TV on iPhone with TV Plus

If you’ve been taken in by the tidal wave of hype surrounding Apple’s iPhone you may already be under the impression that this diminutive device is capable of everything from making you a cup of coffee in the morning to filling in your tax return.

While we’re sorry to crush such heady expectations, there’s no denying that this remarkable machine is capable of some seriously amazing feats of technological tomfoolery.

One such indispensible talent we discovered this week was the ability to control our Sky+ box remotely using the iPhone - even when we’re out of the house!

Being the kind chaps that we are here at Pocket Gamer, rather than selfishly sit on this incredible news we’ve decided to share our knowledge with you lucky, lucky people.

First things first - you need to grab the TV Plus application from the App Store so you can gain control over your outlandish viewing habits. Do a quick search by tapping the relevant icon at the bottom of the App Store screen and you’ll track it down in no time at all. Sadly, for those of you out there who possess purse strings marginally tighter than Scrooge McDuck, it’s not a free app - but then nothing of any value ever comes easily, as they say. Still, just under three English pounds for such a brilliant program is a steal, as you’re about to find out…
You’ll need a Sky+ account (and a Sky+ box - although pointing that out at this late stage is probably a little pointless) in order to use this application, so if you’ve not already signed up, point yourself in the general direction of http://www.sky.com and register. If you’ve come prepared and already have an account, give yourself a pat on the back and log in via this screen using your existing Username and Password.

We’re in! From this screen it’s possible to search the TV listings by categories, such as Movies, Sport, Shopping and Music. I wonder which one Topless Darts comes under?
Ok, we’ve played it safe and selected Entertainment - now it’s time to pick which channel we’d like to be entertained by. Naturally, you might see a slightly different selection of listings here, depending on what region of the country you’re in. For example, we’ve heard rumours that some parts of Somerset have only just received access to BBC 2, and that it’s common for owners of TV sets to be dragged out of their homes and flogged for possessing ‘Glowing Devil Boxes’. (That last bit might not be true).
Hmm. Choices, choices. After much deliberation, we’ve gone for the good old Big British Castle, ably funded by the Joe Public and bastion of such top-quality programming as EastEnders, The One Show and...
Rogue Traders? Well, it’s good for a laugh, isn’t it? A brief synopsis of tonight’s episode follows, in which we learn that shady dog sellers will be coming under Matt Allwright and Dan Penteado’s spotlight this week. I wonder what hilarious disguise and insulting stereotypical accent Matt will employ for this particular investigation?
Pushing the big red button at the bottom of the screen results in a confirmation prompt, and after selecting ‘Yes’ you can breathe easy in the knowledge that when you get home from work you will have an entire evening of watching dodgy pet shops trying to palm off ill dogs on the unsuspecting public - and getting what's coming to them.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
