Will Kratos rip Link's head off to be crowned best BAFTA handheld game?
Although DS nominations outgun PSP four to two
It is the season to wear expensive dresses and prepare to either thank your therapist or call them up to book an extra long get-it-off-your-chest losers session.
Still, at least when it comes to the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards, Kate Winslet won't get a look in.
Nominations were announced today: of course our attentions were focused on the handheld category, which reads
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (DS), Doublesix/Sierra
God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP), Ready at Dawn & Sony Santa Monica
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS), Nintendo
Patapon (PSP), Pyramid & Sony Japan
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS), Nintendo
Soul Bubbles (DS), Mekensleep/Eidos
A reasonably conventional list then, which is what we'd expect from an award structure that's tilted in the favour of big publishers who are prepared to pay a fee to nominate their games.
And don't get us started on the lack of mobile games. We've already ripped that issue a new one.
The awards themselves will be voted on by a panel of journalists - most of whom should know what they're talking about - and Keith Chegwin (really, we're not making this up), while the results will be announced during a big black tie dingaling hosted by Dara O'Briain on 10 March in London.
Alternatively, anyone can vote online for the public GAME Award of 2008; the only handheld game in that category is Professor Layton and the Curious Village.
