SciFly II takes to the skies

Early footage of aerial shooter shows that game's got wings

SciFly II takes to the skies

Josh Rosen, the developer behind the surprisingly agile aerial battles in SciFly: Dogfight, has revealed work on a sequel, SciFly II. Rosen intends to expand the scope of the original beyond pure combat to include exploration elements, drafting larger levels and greater freedom to customise your ship.

"I have always been excited about the flight genre in video games, and I think the iPhone's control system makes for a perfect match," says Rosen. "The action elements of the original SciFly is a great testament to this, but that action exists in a very small-scale world. The idea behind SciFly II is to place that action into a massive world and explore combat flight game genre to its full potential on the iPhone."

Although the game won't hit the App Store for at least another three to four months, Rosen is already touting a wealth of enhancements to the game. A range of weapon options, customisable shields and boosters can be unlocked by conquering areas of the world. Like its predecessor, upgrade points lead the way to new parts.

The visuals look to be getting an upgrade too. Alpha footage of the game shows a noticeable bump in quality that puts SciFly II on the radar. We'll have more on the game in the coming months.
