O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: January 30th

If there’s one thing we like at Pocket Gamer, it’s a good platformer. The problem with this genre is that it’s essentially been made defunct by modern gaming technology.

Platform games just don’t work the same when the platform is in 3D. Aspects are retained, but a 3D platformer generally comes across as more of an adventure game, while the puzzle aspects blended with a fist full of dexterity and the occasional sharp shooting is what we really want in a good, old fashioned, side-on platformer.

Fortunately, the mobile… er, platform is still replete with this classic mode of gameplay, as this week’s new releases demonstrate. We’ve got two retro classics given a lick of digital paint in 3D Bomberman Atomic and Burger Time Delight - both top notch platformers in the old skool style.

There’s also the obscure, yet intriguing Hamster Mansion adding a bit of anthropomorphic fun to the charts, but still has the main character scurrying around on 2D platforms.

Retro, it seems, still rules.
