Heroes and Villains coming to iPhone from IGF award winners

Being as I love indie games to an extent that verges on impropriety, I find this to be ultra-exciting news.

One half of the team formally known as Bit-Blot - winners of the 2007 IGF with the incredible underwater adventure, Aquaria (and the wonderful I’m O.K.) - is now part of a new Canadian-based indie studio, called Infinite Ammo.

Alec Holowka has been writing on the studio’s new blog about the development work he and his team have been doing on their first iPhone game, Heroes and Villains.

There’s currently only concept art available, but the track record of this team ensures it’s going to be innovative as well as gorgeous. Check out this concept art for Heartbreak and Mr. Marvelous, for instance.

Heroes and Villains will put you in charge of a super-powered team, and it’s up to you to determine which side you’re on by saving or endangering as many civilians as possible.

The blog pitches the game as ‘Lemmings meets the Lost Vikings meets Awesome’, and that’s enough to sell the concept here at Pocket Gamer.

At this point, there’s little else in the way of details, but there’s a sneaking suspicion Heroes and Villains began life as a PC game. The blog’s pretty clear on it now being an iPhone title, however, which makes perfect sense for a new and ultra-talented studio like Infinite Ammo.

Just for giggles, have a look at their composite development video as they work on the early stages of Heroes and Villains.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
