Before you all disappear into the great white yonder (or great wet yonder as is usually the case in the UK this time of year) to enjoy the season’s festivities, spare a thought for those with less to look forward to. Namely, the DS and the PSP.

You know the story with these two, folks. Dwindling if not dead third-party PSP support, a lukewarm reception to the DSi, the iPhone's unstoppable success, Android lurking just around the corner. We're in for a bit of a seismic shift in 2009 and chances are, this time next year, the pocket gaming climate will be very different indeed.

But in the meantime, where does all this impending change leave the DS and the PSP? Are they cemented firmly enough in the hearts and minds of pocket gamers everywhere to weather the next 12 months? Or are we all a fickle bunch, much happier to jump onto the next big thing than wait patiently for our current pocket companions to get their second wind.
