DanceDanceRevolution and Frogger for the iPhone

Konami’s going touchscreen mad

We’ve been hot on Konami’s trail all morning, with news that Metal Gear Solid Touch and Silent Hill: The Escape are coming to the App Store very shortly, so we thought we’d round out our coverage with a look at DanceDanceRevolution S Lite and Frogger.

Rhythm games are proving pretty popular on the iPhone - what with the likes of Tap Tap Revenge tearing up the App Store charts, so it’s only right that the original music/rhythm game gets an iPhone port.

DanceDanceRevolution S Lite appears to work along the lines of those miniaturised stepping controllers that came out when the console versions of DanceDance appeared, with a touchscreen overlay to let your fingers do the dancin’. [Update: DDR isn't currently announced for Europe].

Frogger fits the iPhone screen perfectly, as the original coin-op used a portrait orientated monitor, too. The result looks like a pretty accurate and welcome picture-perfect port, with all the log-hopping, traffic-dodging action (with touchscreen and/or accelerometer controls) that made the game such a cult classic.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing these on the App Store before long, as both are labelled as having a late December release date. Keep checking back at Pocket Gamer for more Konami iPhone news as it comes in.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
