Sony needs to "work a little bit harder" on spreading the word about cross-platform functionality between PS3 and PSP as well as PSP functions like the camera and GPS, according to Sony's UK boss Ray Maguire.

Maguire has admitted to GamesIndustry.biz that when PS3 was first released, the company highlighted the console's features at the expense of bigging up the games side of things. He also says not enough gamers are aware of compatibility between PS3 and PSP and other PSP features.

Talking about the PS3, Maguire says: "Because we've been out for a couple of years now, people are starting to understand and discover the functionality of things like PlayTV, and that's created the desire for people to upgrade to larger hard disk sizes. I just recently put a 320GB drive in mine.

"I think people are starting to come to grips with that, but what's probably lesser known is the relationship between PS3 and PSP and the Remote Play functionality.

"Those are the things we have to work a little bit harder on - the GPS functionality, the camera functionality - all of those elements which of course give us content to sit on the PS3"

He's probably right. Remote Play on PSP seems to have been completely forgotten about, despite the fact that when we first saw the PS3 being demoed a couple of months before it was released to the world, Remote Play and being able to access your PS3's hard-drive using your PSP on the move were some of the first functions shown off to an awestruck crowd. Perhaps there's still time for it to catch on - two years after the PS3 is released.
