Expect all-new stories from Gotham City

LEGO Batman for iPhone is a bespoke game

Back at the Leipzig Game Convention, we found out LEGO Batman was being primed for iPhone. We got rather excited about our exclusive although we have to agree it was a shallow one as that was pretty much all the information we gathered.

We'd hardly call this an exhaustive scoop either but we can now confirm the game is almost ready for action and that it's been developed from the ground up for iPhone rather than being a port of either the DS, PSP or mobile games. This makes complete sense in terms of the different control method required for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Of course, there is some crossover in terms of the basic premise – that the likes of Penguin, The Joker, Catwoman etc have escaped Arkham Asylum and it's up to you to travel through Gotham City and round them up. Indeed, it's fair to say that the gameplay will be more character-based than the other versions.

Perhaps more significant, however, is that the game will be one of the most high profile console titles to be rolled onto iPhone. So while we expect Warners to be experimenting with things such as pricing elasticity on the App Store, it seems the company also aims to make some cash on the deal so don't expect to find this game available for £1.79.

Other than these musings though, the slow drip-drip of information remains in force.

But don't be a stranger. Hit the 'Track It!' button to get an email telling you whenever we're next alerted by the LEGO Batman iPhone signal in the sky. We don't think it will be long.
