Should Apple have a first party game studio?
|

We're all about making the world a better place, though we'd be the first to admit that the only way we are attempting to achieve that goal is through pocket gaming.

If the right people took notice of our latest Loose Threads topic, for example (not to say you need to be Steve Jobs to comment), iPhone games could be even better, meaning more fun for you, more smiles per square mile and hence an overall increase in happiness for the people of earth. It's a strangled logic but it keeps us going. Anyway, about that topic…

The (semi) open nature of the iPhone SDK and the App Store has been good news for talented developers working on a budget, and the iPhone has proved to have hidden strengths, establishing itself as a bonafide gaming handheld, quite separate from the typical mobile gaming crowd.

So though Apple doesn't really have much experience as a company in the gaming realm, should it not at least be attempting to lead by example with a first party studio that delivers quality titles of its own? Where would the PSP be without WipEout Pulse, would the DS be as popular if Nintendo didn't make some of the best games for it?

Recently ngmoco's Neil Young stated that he wants his company to feel like it's the first party iPhone developer. It seems some people have the right idea, should Apple follow suit?

That's enough reminding for now, happy posting and have a good weekend.
