Early reports might be indicating it has a dicky screen, but that hasn't stopped Japanese gamers snapping up the new PSP 3000 model in its thousands. Or perhaps they just hadn't heard about it, which is more likely.

Early sales figures, reported by Famitsu and translated today by Kotaku, indicate the PSP 3000 has sold 141,270 in its first four days on sale.

That's pretty impressive.

Although, almost as impressive are the sales of the now-yesterday's-news PSP 2000 and the positively ancient PSP 1000 models, which also shifted 155,720 units between them in Japan in the week ending October 19th. A massive increase, as the previous week only 19,873 were sold.

Surely they must have had a sale on for that to make any sense.

We think we have an idea of who might be topping this week's hardware sales chart anyway. Although with the DSi coming out in Japan on November 1st, it could be short-lived.
