Red Bull Air Race coming to mobile and iPhone

3D aerial stunts game to give your mobile wings

Red Bull Air Race coming to mobile and iPhone

Artificial Life has announced a partnership with the Red Bull Air Race to bring the motorsports event to mobile phones in a series of 3D aerial racing games.

The Red Bull Air Race is a world championship competition in which top pilots race against the clock to navigate low-level aerial tracks, flying in between air filled pylons known as air gates.

"With the Red Bull Air Race mobile game we will establish a new approach to mobile gaming taking full advantage of the motion sensitivity and accelerometers of the latest mobile devices," said Eberhard Schoneburg, CEO of Artificial Life. "Normally only world class pilots are able to compete in the Red Bull Air Races, but by bringing this exciting game series to the mobile device, now anyone with a mobile phone can fly like a pro!"

A series of 3D games are planned for high-end mobiles and the iPhone. The Air Race takes places on aerial courses in locations such as Abu DDhabi, Budapest, Detroit, London, Porto, Perth, Rotterdam and San Diego. Apparently scoring will be the same as in a real race where pilots will be penalised for mistakes and must take into account altitude, speed, wing angle, horizontal and vertical positions during manoeuvres, and (rather boringly) safety.

The first game is slated to appear early 2009, so keep an eye on the sky for further news. In the meantime, you can check out the Red Bull Air Race official site for more info on what to expect.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
