As the age old axiom goes, the more the merrier, and while a healthy amount of competition stimulates the marketplace, too much can fragment it.

But it seems that the pocket gaming market may be able to sustain a good deal more than we once thought. The iPhone has been phenomenally popular as a games device so far, but it seems it hasn't had a significant impact on sales of Sony and Nintendo's hardware.

Is there enough room for another serious contender in the handheld space? What would a new console have to include to have a chance of gaining a foothold?
