The accessibility of the Google Android system is seriously tempting for pocket game developers, but the profitable distribution of the App Store is equally alluring. As yet, however, the Android Market is a fair way off, so commercial quality games for the brand new platform might be difficult to spot this side of 2009.

But that doesn't mean the devs aren't building up the marketplace's big launch - as Connect2Media has proven with the announcement of 12 format specific titles. Alongside some hush-hush 'groundbreaking' concepts, there's the promise of classic games such as 4 in a Row (Connect 4, we're guessing) and a card game compilation. Once it becomes simplerto distribute the games with charges, we'll undoubtedly hear a lot more about the remaining titles.

This announcement marks Connect2Media's new mission to become 'a 360 degree developer' – quite literally. Next year it intends to release games for the Xbox 360, Wii and iPhone as well as Google's new system. That the Android OS is being catered for in a line up of such powerhouse games systems speak volumes about the potential that games companies can see.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
