DS breaks August hardware sales record in US

Sells over half a million to beat even PS2 in its heyday

DS breaks August hardware sales record in US

We all know the deal by now: the DS is very popular everywhere and - since its release - it's made Nintendo billions of yen richer. Recent figures from the Financial Times even show the average Nintendo employee will make more than £800,000 profit for their company this year, which makes them more profitable than your average Goldman Sachs mega-bank worker.

If that's not grounds for requesting a pay rise, we don't know what is. (Especially since the average Nintendo employee earns £45,450 while Goldman Sachs's get a whopping £330,000).

Anyway, I digress from the actual story here - which is that Nintendo has proven its popularity once again by breaking the hardware sales records for August in the US, beating previous record-holder Sony's PS2, which sold 454,300 units back in August 2002.

DS snatched the sales record by selling 518,000 units in the month just gone. So it's another feather in DS's cap - which, if there were a real cap, would be resembling a giant genetically mutated peacock by now. The achievement is particularly impressive considering the overall slowdown in the growth of the games market in the US at the moment.
