LEGO Batman DS released date confirmed

And Traveller's Tales promises the series won't turn rubbish in future

LEGO Batman DS released date confirmed

A release date has been confirmed by publisher Warner Bros for the long -awaited LEGO Batman, the latest in the impossible-to-dislike LEGO game series, which currently comprises various Star Wars games and the recently released LEGO Indiana Jones.

The game, which developer Traveller's Tales has called its "best LEGO game yet" will be released on DS and PSP in the UK on October 10th.

The new Batman film, The Dark Knight, has generated over $500 million in the US alone since its release in July and the game has already received positive previews from assorted press (ourselves included).

"The reaction has been very positive from retailers and consumers," Traveller's Tales product manager Richard Earl said, speaking to MCV. "This is the best LEGO game that we've made so far and it seems retailers and consumers agree with us.

"We definitely hope it will be one of the top titles for the Christmas period. The hero and the villain modes are great, and we think it's going to be lots of fun for consumers," he added.

Richard Earl has also been speaking to Eurogamer about the future of the LEGO series following LEGO Batman, saying it will cap releases to preserve quality.

"There's an expectation now that there would be a LEGO game per year, and we certainly feel that one or two games would be the right amount per year, otherwise there'd be a saturation of LEGO games and they'd lose the charm," he said.

"We're also conscious that we're making games for young kids. We don't want to take the piss out of the consumer and end up making any old rubbish. We're hoping people feel our games are of a high standard and we want to continue doing that."

Traveller's Tales is yet to announce which licence it might plastic brick-ify next, but since the developer was acquired by Warner Bros last year, there have been rumours it might have begun work on a Harry Potter title. Something which Earl says he hopes will happen. He adds though that Warner Bros's back catalogue of movies opens up a lot of other opportunities too. Whichever it goes for, it's safe to say we're looking forward to it already.
