The charts remain stable, but the new releases predict an imminent shake up

O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: August 29th

You can look at the charts in different ways, especially after a run like the last few weeks.

It seems as though the same few games have shuffled their positions quite a bit, but nothing has particularly managed to break in or get kicked out, suggesting nothing of great importance has been released during the typically quieter summer months. But the optimistic pocket gamers among us can see a different set of circumstances guiding the Top 10.

A hardcore of superb, undefeatable champions have all descended on our mobile phones at once; like some kind of digital Royal Rumble of mobile gaming giants, all vying for space in the spectacular showcase ring of your handset. Knocking stalwart veterans of the industry like Tetris, Bejeweled and Monopoly from the top ten is an almost impossible task, although the newly released Game of Life adaptation certainly fits the profile to join them amongst the pantheon.

Of course, there's always room for newcomers, and the Olympic Games have served extremely well when it comes to keeping Sonic in the charts. For the first time in what seems like an eternity, Guitar Hero Mobile III has dropped from the list, though it's worth pointing out that it's only at number 11 – hardly gone, and definitely not forgotten.

The fact that the charts have been so stable for the last few weeks (almost months) is no bad thing for the end user. It means we've seen games so addictive and infinitely playable recently that we've needed little else. And although most of us don't like to really think about it, the game companies are already working toward the Christmas build up, so we can expect to see a lot of new releases shortly, and those are bound to affect the charts quite a bit.

It's been a good run across the summer, but we're ready for some serious changes. You keep an eye on the new season's games, and we'll watch the charts – a pocket gaming shake up is on its way…
