GC 2008: Sony unveils PSP 3000
October 15th, EUR199
Sony president David Reeves has unveiled the latest PSP model, the PSP 3000, during the company's press conference at Leipzig's Games Convention.
Shown in Piano Black (of course), the new model is as slim and light as the, er, Slim & Lite, but comes with slightly smoother lines.
It also comes with an integrated microphone (to the left of the PSP logo on the bottom edge) to enable users to communicate via Skype and Go!Messenger when in wi-fi hotspots (Sony won't jump off the multimedia train, but developers could theoretically work this feature into games, as on DS) and an improved, brighter LCD capable of displaying more colours. Apparently that makes it work better when playing outdoors. We'll believe it when we see it.
The PSP 3000 launches on October 15th across European territories, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand at a €199 (£150 approx) price point. Eight bundles – such as Harry Potter, FIFA, Buzz! and Go!Communications – will be available at launch.
The Slim & Lite model will continue to be available for €169 for a limited period (until stocks run out).
We'll have more details, including images, as soon as we get them.
