Things have been a bit sleepy over on our sister site, Pocket Picks, this last week. The week started with a bit of a bang but fizzled out considerably as Friday drew to a close.

But what was that bang? It was a full-on torrent of leaks regarding the forthcoming (as of yet unannounced) Nokia Tube handset is what. Besides plenty of new pictures to ogle there was also an updated spec sheet too, suggesting that the handset will indeed be more mid-range than flagship.

That should leave the stage clear for the hotly anticipated Nokia N96 then, which, according to some fresh rumours, should be landing in the UK on October 1st. Fingers crossed that one's true.

Lastly in the Nokia camp, the company's new plan to make the S60 OS open source took another step forward with the announcement that Nokia will sponsor a new developer expo called Open Source Goes Mobile. Oh and for Mac users that also own Symbian phones, that age old syncing problem has finally been remedied by a neat little application called Missing Sync for Symbian.

Speaking of Apple, the iPhone had its quietest week in a while. Perhaps the biggest news was that iPhone 3G users are starting to report that their handsets are developing hairline cracks in the casing.

Rumblings of a more positive sort came with news of a new application, MagicPad, that adds copy and paste functions to the iPhone. Sadly the app's use is a little stunted due to Apple's tight controls on such things, but at least it proves it can be done. Despite those tight controls, however, Apple has been unable to stop those tireless hackers who have succeeded in Jailbreaking the App store already, making it possible to distribute apps for free.

Besides that, a mysterious photo of the innards of an iPhone factory and a diamond crusted iPhone were about as newsworthy as things got. As we said, it was a quiet week.

There were some mixed news pieces too, however. Microsoft's Steve Balmer made an oblique hint at the arrival of some sort of iPhone bating Microsoft handset, the BBC got to considering whether mobile TV is still a good idea and Facebook on the iPhone passed the one million user mark.

It also transpired that it is now illegal to share mobiles in Sri Lanka and that mobile use amongst pregnant mothers could affect the behaviour of their children. And just to finish things off, Motorola took a step back in time with what might be the ugliest handset released this year. Oh dear.

That's it for now, then, but remember to click 'Track It!' to be sure not to miss next week's Pocket Picks round-up.
